What is Your Voice 2022?

Your Voice 2022

Your Voice 2022 is an information and engagement campaign to bring awareness to the Indianapolis-Marion County redistricting process for 2022. The goal of Your Voice is to hear from Indianapolis residents, like you, about your priorities for mapping future City-County Council districts.

Redistricting

Every 10 years, the federal government collects data on changes in our country’s population through the U.S. Census. That data is then used to redraw the lines and boundaries of electoral districts within a municipality, like Indianapolis, or a state. This process affects district boundaries at all levels of government — from local school boards and city councils to state legislatures and the United States House of Representatives. The way district lines are drawn puts residents together in groups. Through elections, these groups decide who will represent them at the local, state, and national levels. The way a district’s lines are drawn is important because it can change who controls a governing body, which policies get passed into law, and how resources are allocated.
